This is the practical application and technique of the working songwriter. Melody, lyrics, “hooks,” points of view and song logic will be covered. Solo writing as well as the concept of collaboration are introduced. Participants will work individually and in small groups. Objectives Learn and employ both conventional and unconventional song structures. Establish the difference between simple expression and communication through song, and how to establish a musical dialogue with the listener. Have a child who is drawn to the ukulele? Introduce the Ukulele! The Ukulele is amazingly suitable for children. They are small and fairly inexpensive and even better, they are fairly easy to learn to play. Within a few minutes a child with the finger dexterity to press the strings firmly against the fingerboard can learn their first chord and play a couple of Nursery Rhymes they are already familiar with. In Level 1, we'll teach you the basics you need to know to get going on this popular instrument. You'll come away with having a few songs under your fingers and the ability to figure out more tunes on your own. Students should come to the first class with their own Ukulele.
